Terms of use

AskBNS is a free, non-commercial website run by Ashwin K, an individual in India. By using it you agree to these terms.

  1. Information, not legal advice. AskBNS shows the text of Indian Acts and short plain-language notes about them. It does not give legal advice, does not know the facts of your situation, and does not create a lawyer–client relationship. Which law applies, and how, depends on the facts and is decided by the police, authorities and courts. For anything that matters, consult a qualified advocate. Free legal aid is available from the National Legal Services Authority on 15100.
  2. Accuracy. We reproduce the text of each Act as published on India Code and other copies of the official text, and check our notes against that text. Errors can still occur: in extracting the text, in our notes, in old-to-new section tables (which are indicative only), or because the law has been amended or rules, notifications or court decisions have changed how it applies. Rules, notifications and judgments are not covered. The authoritative text is on India Code.
  3. No warranty. The site is provided free, "as is" and "as available", without any warranty, express or implied, of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a purpose or availability.
  4. Limitation of liability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operator is not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, the site or its content, including any missed deadline, legal step or proceeding.
  5. Not a government site. AskBNS is an independent project. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Government of India, any State Government, any court or any Bar Council.
  6. Using the site. Don't try to disrupt it, scrape it at a rate that slows it for others, or use it to harass anyone. Don't send us names or details that identify any victim, child or accused person.
  7. Content. The text of the Acts is reproduced under section 52(1)(q) of the Copyright Act, 1957. Our own notes, labels and code are © Ashwin K. Third-party material keeps its own licence.
  8. Privacy. See the Privacy page.
  9. Changes and law. We may change these terms by updating this page. These terms are governed by the laws of India.
  10. Contact. ash1794@gmail.com, or report an issue.
